(Taipei, September 26, 2013) Suzann Pettersen, the defending champion coming off her impressive triumph at the Evian Championship, is set to be on a collision course with Rolex world number one Inbee Park at the upcoming Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2013 next month, which boasts a star-studded field featuring Taiwan’s ace Yani Tseng.

The USD 2 million purse event is entering its final one month countdown. Local fans are once again eagerly awaiting this exciting and riveting world-class golf competition, the only one officially sanctioned LPGA event on the island and now in it’s 3rd year.

In the press conference today, organizers announced the player field, which includes fan favorites and major championship winners Suzann Pettersen, Inbee Park, Na Yeon Choi, Cristie Kerr. In addition the field includes the popular Michelle Wie, Lexi Thompson, Ai Miyazato and Beatriz Recari, the rising star from Spain. Yani Tseng, winner of the inaugural Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2011, is coming home and hoping to tap into some home-cooking and homegrown support to provide enough sparkle to mount a comeback at the Sunrise Golf & Country Club, literally her “home course” since junior golf days.

Title sponsor Sunrise Group chairman Tien-Ya Hsu, who is also the chairman of Taiwan's golf governing body GAROC, remarked “ by all accounts, the previous two editions of this prestigious event have been a huge success. It is my hope that this tournament will eventually put Taiwan on the map of world golf and help elevate the profile of golf here in Taiwan and also create future Olympic gold medalists.”

In the final round of Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship 2012, Suzann Pettersen shot a 3-under 69 in tough windy conditions to stave off overnight leader Inbee Park by 3 shots en route to her victory. As a result, local fans are looking forward to a possible rematch down to the wire between world number one and number two, in addition to the much anticipated resurgence of Yani Tseng.

Over the past two years, a slew of all-time sporting records have been smashed by the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, including single-day fan attendance, overall fan attendance, total prize money and the winner’s share of USD 300,000. Players and visiting guests alike were immensely impressed with the outpouring passion and enthusiasm from the huge gallery. Daily attendance of more than 10,000 fans, strong fields, world-class championship golf course and international media all contributed to help give off major championships vibes.

In addition to the star players, organizers also announced seven wild card players which include Taiwan’s most promising young talents. They are set to join Yani Tseng and Candie Kung to face the challenge from international elite players.

According to organizers, early-bird ticket discounts of 20% for the tournament will come to an end on September 30. However, 60,000 free tickets will be made available to nearby residents of the Taoyuan County as a friendly gesture. To encourage more youngsters to pick up the game of golf, organizers also offer free admission to organized groups of high school and college students.
